Role & Responsibilities

Mandate

The Academic Registrar’s role is mandated by the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act of 2001, as amended. This mandate includes managing all academic processes and ensuring they align with the University’s strategic goals and regulatory requirements. The Registrar supports the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and serves as Secretary to the Senate and its committees.

Undergraduate Admissions & Records

The office handles all aspects of undergraduate admissions, from processing applications to providing information about available programs. It liaises with various Faculties, Institutes, Schools, and Colleges to facilitate student registration and maintains comprehensive records of all undergraduate students, producing an annual nominal roll.

Examinations & Academic Ceremonies

The Academic Registrar is responsible for organizing University examinations, managing examination irregularities, and coordinating graduation ceremonies. This role includes preparing and issuing academic transcripts and certificates, and handling issues related to academic awards.

Senate Responsibilities

As Secretary to the Senate, the Academic Registrar facilitates the review and formulation of academic regulations and policies. The office manages Senate meetings, oversees the approval of examination results, and ensures that quality assurance measures are implemented effectively.

Graduate Admissions and Records

The Registrar’s office also manages postgraduate admissions, provides information about Graduate School programs, and maintains records of graduate students. It coordinates research activities and the publication of academic work, supporting the University’s research mission.

Convocation Coordination

The office oversees the activities of the University Convocation, an association of graduates, staff, and other authorized individuals. This coordination strengthens the connection between the University and its alumni, fostering ongoing engagement and support for the institution.
